0. PREPARATION.
[In the East, the Stele of Revealing hanging above all other items. On the altar a single white candle (shin) , a small bowl of fresh water (maim), and incense (aleph), red sandalwood preferably. These items to be arranged in a descending triangle (single point to the west), with the candle at the top left angle , water at the top right angle, and the incense at the bottom. Within the triangle should be placed some visible image of the Great Work, such as a statue of Horus, Shakyamuni, or any other image as symbolic representations of the Lord of the Universe. Cakes of Light may be used for the Eucharist, with a Grail of Wine. Additionally, a smaller second altar may be used to place any images which invoke the aspiration, fresh flowers, fresh food offerings, and any other images or items that are found pleasing and inspiring.]
I. OPENING.
[All participants are seated in meditative postures. When
ready, the Adytum should be opened by whatever ritual methods the Officiant
sees fit. At a minimum, banishing by fiat should be performed:]
BAHLASTI! OMPEHDA!1 [pause]
Officiant: Nu is my Refuge [raising arms slightly]
As Hadit my
Light [continuing to raise arms]
And Heru-Ra-Ha is the Strength, Force, Vigour of my arms.
2 [Arms are now raised outstretched. Cross arms over
chest, right over left. When complete, turns to face the assembly:]
[Strikes gong once *] Do what thou wilt shall be the whole of the Law.
All: Love is the law, love under will.
[Chant three times:]
A KA DUA
II. REFUGE and DEDICATION
Officiant: We take refuge in Nuit.
All: May we with all sentient beings
embody the Great Work, and aspire to the unsurpassable intention, consecrating
our lives unto the blue-lidded daughter of Sunset, the naked brilliance of the
voluptuous night sky.3
Officiant: We take refuge in Hadit.
Life wells in the Heart of the Master; Death is but the Systole of that marvelous pulse.
Liberty leaps in the Heart of the Master; for every man and every woman is a star.
Love burns in the Heart of the Master: he, seeing only God in every thing, with the white flame of worship purges it of all its fancied imperfection.7
O day of Eternity, let Thy wave break in foamless glory of sapphire upon the laborious coral of our making!8
O Land beyond honey and spice and all perfection! I will dwell therein with my Lord for ever.9
III. FORMULATION of the LIGHT
Officiant: This shall regenerate the world, the little world my sister, my heart & my tongue, unto whom I send this kiss.10
All: Within the embrace of Light, Life, Love and Liberty that is the Law of Thelema, beneath the Starry Canopy of Heaven that is Nuit, we aspire towards the accomplishment of the Great Work.
For the benefit of all sentient beings, we strive to perfect ourselves through personal discipline, and by improving our knowledge and practice, that we may Know and Do our True Will, and come to the Knowledge & Conversation of the Holy Guardian Angel.
We strive to embody the One Law of Thelema, establishing the Kingdom of the Crowned & Conquering Child, that the Empire of Light may be made manifest forever more. For as long as space exists, and sentient beings endure, may we too remain, to dispel the darkness of the world.
Officiant: Come forth, o children, under the stars, & take your fill of love! I am above you and in you. My ecstasy is in yours. My joy is to see your joy.11 [Strikes gong once *]
All: Nammo tassa, bhagavato, arahato samma
sambudhasa.
Nammo tassa, bhagavato,
arahato samma sambudhasa.
Nammo tassa, bhagavato, arahato samma
sambudhasa.12
[Optional: Led by the Officiant, all perform the Lantern of Thebes. When finished:]
Officiant:
Unity uttermost showed!
I adore the might of Thy breath
Supreme and terrible God,
Who makest the gods and death
To tremble before Thee: —
I, I adore thee!
IV. THE DIAMOND SAPPHIRE GEM OF RADIANT LIGHT
Officiant: [strikes gong once]:
The light is come to the darkness, and the darkness is made light. Then is light married with light, and the child of their love is that other darkness, wherein they abide that have lost name and form. Therefore did I kindle him that had not understanding, and in the Book of the Law did I write the secrets of truth that are like unto a star and a snake and a sword.13
And unto him that understandeth at last do I deliver the secrets of truth in such wise that the least of the little children of the light may run to the knees of the mother and be brought to understand.14
[Announces the Dharma reading. This is a selection from any of the canon of the Thelemic Holy Books. In most cases Liber AL vel Legis, chapter I, is most suitable. Liber VII and Liber LXV are also favorable. At the discretion of the Officiant, any of the Holy Books may be used.]
[All chant the dharma reading monotone, following the lead of the Officiant. The silent meditation is directed towards healing. On each inhalation, participants should visualize streams of radiant white light pouring into their bodies, cleansing and empowering them. On each exhalation, the light is transformed into white radiance at the heart center and then projected back out into the universe in all directions, cleansing, healing, and inspiring all sentient beings. The meditation should be no less than 11 minutes. When done:]
Officiant:
I am the flame that burns in every heart of man, and in the core of every
star.15
I am alone: there is
no God where I am.16 There is no law beyond Do what thou wilt.17
All: [chant eleven times, the gong being struck at the beginning of each repetition:]
A KA DUA
V. EUCHARIST and FINAL BENEDICTION
Officiant: Remember all ye that existence is pure joy; that all the sorrows are but as shadows; they pass & are done; but there is that which remains.18 [pause].
[Goes to East of altar, facing West, over the altar elements, and invokes:]
Thou who art
I, beyond all I am,
Who hast no nature and no name,
Who art, when all but thou are gone,
Thou, center and secret of the Sun,
Thou hidden spring of all things known
And unknown, thou aloof, alone,
Thou, the true fire within the reed
Brooding and breeding, source and seed,
Of Life, Love, Liberty and Light,
Thou beyond speech and beyond sight,
Thee I invoke, my faint fresh fire
Kindling as my intents aspire.
Thee I invoke, abiding One,
Thou, center and secret of the Sun,
And that most holy mystery,
Of which the vehicle am I.
Appear most awful and most mild,
As it is lawful, to thy child!19
[Partakes of Eucharist by first holding hands over the candle flame, then dipping right forefinger in the water and anointing forehead, and then smelling the incense. while making silent dedication and prayer.]
[If Cakes of Light are employed20, the Eucharist proceeds with the following. Officiant raises the Grail on high with both hands while saying:] Thou shalt drain out thy blood that is thy life into the golden cup of her fornication.21 [Lowers Grail to level of heart, and holds it with left hand.]
[Raises a Cake of Light, holding it over the Grail on high:] Thou shalt mingle thy life with the universal life. Thou shalt not keep back one drop.22 [Brings Cake down to heart level, above the opening of the Grail. Then silently consumes the Cake of Light, and drains the Grail. When done says:] There is success.23
All: [Each person in turn is invited to say a prayer or give offerings at the alter, and partake of the Eucharist. When done:]
Officiant: I am uplifted in thine heart; and the kisses of the stars rain hard upon thy body.24
May Light, Life, Love and Liberty be extended universally to all, under the regency of the One Law of Thelema. May all attain the Stone of the Wise, the Summum Bonum, True Wisdom and Perfect Happiness.
All: (vibrate once) ABRAHADABRA
Officiant: [Knocks once] TETELESTAI!25
